White Label Development on IBM Bluemix’s Watson Services

White Label Development on IBM Bluemix’s Watson Services

Halfslide Design recently completed another White Label development project for another development agency that utilized IBM Bluemix’s Watson services.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with white label services: white label services are when we at Halfslide Design do software development work for other creative or development agencies in order to supplement their workforce on projects.  It allows those agencies to staff projects without keeping full-time staff and all work is done under their brand.  In that case, we do not add the project to our Halfslide Design portfolio and do not publicly take any credit for the work.

In the case of this project, the client had an interesting requirement.  They wanted to capture video responses of survey … Read the rest

Redesigning the Walton & Johnson Radio Show App

Redesigning the Walton & Johnson Radio Show App

As an Austin, Texas-based website and app developer, nothing makes us happier than working with and helping other local businesses and organizations.

This was especially true when we were hired to redesign the mobile app for the acclaimed local radio show Walton & Johnson.

For the uninitiated, the Walton & Johnson Show is a morning broadcast listened to by millions of loyal fans who tune in for the unique mix of opinionated and compelling talk, skits, characters, impersonations, guests, and stream of consciousness segments.

The pair have won numerous awards since teaming up in 1983, and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

With so many people either listening live or catching up with previous shows in their own … Read the rest

The Weeli App – Building a Social Alternative to Yelp

The Weeli App – Building a Social Alternative to Yelp

Since its inception in 2004, Yelp has gone on to become one of the internet’s largest public review sites.

With users able to recommend anything from hotels to restaurants and plumbing services to chiropractors, the site is the go-to for people looking for social proof of a company’s credentials.

However, as Yelp has grown, its own credibility and indeed its usefulness has taken a hit; particularly in the social proof aspect of its reviews.

Problems with Yelp

Yelp’s problems are an unfortunate result of its fundamental business model and its growth.

In the beginning, when each company had a handful of honest reviews left by early adopters who saw it as a way of helping the community, everything seemed to … Read the rest

Updating and Upgrading CTE Skills’ Training Video Website

Updating and Upgrading CTE Skills’ Training Video Website

CTE Skills is a Texas-based operation that has been creating and marketing Career & Technical Education training videos for over a decade now, and in that time have seen both their business and video library expand in a way they could never have predicted when they first set out.

In much the same way that a bricks and mortar business may outgrow their premises, CTE Skills recognized the fact that they had outgrown their old website, and so recently approached our partner, SETX Digital, with the request to update and upgrade their platform.  Halfslide Design was brought in to do the implementation of the site while SETX Digital provided marketing and project management services.

As with any successful enterprise, … Read the rest

Fathers Rights .attorney site on mobile devices

Once upon a time, there were two aspects of website design that were desired by business site owners above all else:

  • a .com domain name
  • a website that functioned well and looked great on a monitor or laptop screen

.com has long been considered the industry standard, and is what people expect to see in a business web address. It looks official and authoritative in a way that .net or .org could never compete with. While regional variations such as .co.uk, .ca or .com.au made sense for non-USA businesses too, .com has always been considered the holy grail for USA companies.

Until relatively recently too, the vast majority of visitors would have been … Read the rest

A website for 2bme – team building and much more

Halfslide Design was recently tasked with the creation of a website for2bme, a local startup here in Austin, Texas, whose aim is to provide ongoing, online leadership training and team building through type theory.  The site is 2bme.cc
